Title says information technology all. I am looking for a skillful and cheaper alternative to Affresh tablets to clean my meridian load washing automobile (no anarchist) on the tub clean bicycle. I have read googling it that some uses bleach, other uses white vinegar...
What yous guys use? What quantity? I like Affresh tablets, but at $three + per utilize I find it a bit on the expensive side for what it does...

Bleach or vinegar on hot cycle. Don't demand a lot. I've never had to make clean out mine, but make sure leave the doors open then everything dries out after every cycle.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find y'all handy.

well we had a 24 years old washing auto and never felt the need to clean it except the fabric softener distributor.... Byt now, with all electronics, I may be paranoid, only I know that ''they'' are possibly monitoring what cycles we run, and how often... I even receive notifications for this, so I just want to follow regiously the instructions, in case of a warranty claim... After each load, we employ a microfiber cloth and wipe it dry out, and we leave the encompass open for few hours, but I just want to run the ''clean tub'' cycle when asked for;)

A couple of observations over the years (and by no means an skilful, or fifty-fifty educated, opinion):
1. Sure people, like my sister-in-police force, use a lot of detergent in their washer. I'll bet that at that place are spots that take a lot of detergent buildup over the years and for those people like my sister-in-law, there'southward probably a heck of a lot of buildup over a short menstruation of fourth dimension.
ii. Detergent is a base.
iii. During the Winter months, if I merely use detergent, I go a certain olfactory property out of my towels (I hang dry). However, if I add a bit of Borax to the wash, that aroma is gone. Also, if I practice a wash wheel with a chip of vinegar, that odour is also gone for a few weeks only will come up back; hence my thoughts about point 1.
Therefore, a expert idea may be to use an acrid-assisted (since acrid is the opposite of base) wash bicycle to clean out the lather/detergent residue that is probably clogging/gumming up the works. Then a dose of cheap bulk/house brand white vinegar might be a good cheap solution to exist added a full launder cycle. If you have a pre-soak or a soak selection, engage that equally it will let the mixture sit and break down the lather.
BTW> Affresh contains sodium perchlorate (aka Oxyclean) and sodium carbonate (washing soda). So, you lot could besides brand your own with a bit of washing soda and Oxyclean. I'grand certain it'southward a fraction of the price!

How oft do you exercise a tub clean such that $iii/tablet is expensive? Even the manufacturer only suggests once a month - I personally go with one time a quarter, and so I don't mind paying the $3.

Practise not use bleach or vinegar - it could deteriorate the condom seals.
Use Borax. Get a box - put one/three cup in and run the clean cycle. Done.

once a month. I know, $3/month is non expensive. But IMHO $3/tablet is overpriced for what it is. Manufacturer await that people say ''$iii/calendar month is nothing'' to sell those tablet at a price that is not understandable for one who really thinks about information technology. Hey, nosotros are on RFD, and doesn't we are here to try to relieve some$$ where it is easy to?

We have a Maytag HE Pinnacle Loader
Accept had it for about 10 or so years now
The instructions that came with the machine recommended using Affresh at least one time a month
(Machine also has a counter on it that tells you when you get to thirty Loads washed … I presume they figure 30 Loads = a month of laundry )
We semi ignore the counter … and just go along track of the date we final ran the clean cycle
Machine's counter resets afterwards y'all run the Clean Cycle
@craftsman is right virtually his observations in Reply # 2
It's all about soap (and therefore soap scum / gunk) build up
And the reason these cleaning cycles are needed on the newer machines … vs the old is HE DETERGENTS ARE DIFFERENT
As to alternatives … I have heard some folks employ alternatives similar bleach or vinegar
But nosotros don't
We employ either Affresh or a knock off (most Grocery Store Chains offering upwards a cheaper House Make )
That'southward one way to relieve money
The other … DONT PAY $ x, $ 11, or $ 12 for Affresh
Buy Information technology ON Sale / PROMO
Our usual routine is take an open pkgi going (good for 3 months)
And a back up in the closet
And so watch for a bargain … (y'all've got basically 6 months to find ane)
When you lot do stock up again with at least two pkgs
This style we typically are paying $ 5 to $ 8 for our Affresh packs
BTW … like I said we are religious in our use of the monthly cleaning bicycle
And like @DoorCrasher nosotros go along our machine well maintained … nosotros definitely pamper it a bit
The pay off … 10+ years and it looks make new
Runs like a dream … and is a workhorse (i to 3 loads a mean solar day … anything from a quick or delicate cycle … to a big bulky winter weight duvet comprehend)
We respect information technology … and it respects u.s.a.
Concluding Maytag lasted literally decades … and we simply got rid of it cuz we were renovating the laundry room
$ iii max a month … modest investment in such a necessary particular
Just ask anyone who has to schlep their laundry to a laundromat … AND PAY $ 3 A LOAD … cuz their machine broke downward !

We take the identical, or similar washer. (It's come up in other threads.)
Quote from downloaded manual: [bold is mine]
"Apply the Clean Washer with AFFRESH™
cycle in one case a month to proceed the inside
of your washer fresh and make clean. This
bike uses a higher water level. Utilize with
AFFRESH® washer cleaner tablet or liquid
chlorine bleach to thoroughly clean the
inside of your washer. This wheel should non
be interrupted. Run across "Cleaning Your Washer.""

Lol expert on you
I withal accept the manual … but haven't dug it out in awhile
I think bleach is less of a concern as an alternate for a top loader than it is a front loader
I likewise take read that bleach can harm the rubber seals like @rjp123 said
Esp equally front loaders already have the event with dampness / water settling in effectually the door … that not enough people regularly make clean up / permit to air out
Only one more reason I am very happy to ain a HE Top Loader!

All washing machines have a filter, but some can exist changed easily from the front. Others (like mine) crave you to basically take it autonomously to admission the filter in the lesser, so it'south not ordinarily something a homeowner would practise unless they lost something in the washing machine and are hoping the filter kept it from going down the drain.

Loftier-Efficiency Washers Don't Have a Lint Filter
If yous have a newer high-efficiency (HE) washer—whether front- or top-loading—the motorcar doesn't have a lint trap. Instead, it relies on a cocky-cleaning pump filter to remove lint from the launder. Still, it's wise to run an empty wash bicycle in one case a month to affluent backlog lint from the pump filter.
And I also know how to read an educational activity booklet. But thanks for your advice. And, from the instructions, I have a self cleaning pump, hence the demand to religiously run the ''clean tub'' wheel.

My LG front end loading HE washer has a filter. Easy to admission and make clean.
Not really a lint filter though. Has bigger grates for catching larger things, similar buttons and coins. But LG calls it a lint filter.

My communication is to leave the door AND the detergent compartment open for at 24 hours after using. Also clean the filter every bit mentioned in post #13 once every 1-2 calendar month and run the 'tub make clean' with baking soda and vinegar.
The previous owners never did any of this and machine smelled so bad - the first time I cleaned filter the water was blackness .
5 years later it still has a smell but well-nigh of it'due south gone by doing the higher up. I tried Affresh tablets and it did little good

My advice is to avoid as much as possible using liquid fabric softeners. They go out a slimy rest coating through out the workings of the machine which will build up. Compounding the trouble in new machines over the past decade is that well-nigh machines today only offer a cold rinse. Accept you ever had a big bottle of fabric softener that has saturday for a while and when y'all pour it out information technology'south sort of lumpy.. or noticed on the textile softener dispenser itself that there is a pasty residue. Not to mention that most people tend to add to much and don't follow the instructions on some brands bottles that says to dilute information technology a little in warm h2o
